Facts about Fertility


- Ovulation occurs on only one day in each cycle.
- The egg lives only 12 - 24 hours if not fertilized.
- Sperm need mucus with fertile characteristics to survive.
- They die within an hour or two without it.
- Sperm with best mucus may live 3 - 5 days.
- Fertility depends on ovulation, sperm and satisfactory mucus.
- Ovulation sets the length of the cycle.
- Menstruation always follows ovulation two weeks later (11 - 16 days)..
- There is no such thing as 'regular' cycles.
- Stress delays ovulation.
- A woman is most fertile between the age of about 18 and 25 yrs of age.
- As a woman ages the cervix produces less and less satisfactory mucus.
- Ovulation can occur straight after menstruation.
